Liquid Man - Discovery Channel
12th October 2006

A short documentary about a bunch of freedivers hanging in the sea.
The direction is based on Apnea Academy’s philosophy, showing a human and spiritual approach to this discipline regarded as extreme. To push for depth at any expense doesn’t necessarily make a good freediver, it is important to be fluid and elegant in the water and in doing so to experience beautiful emotions. The six freedivers appearing in the film portray an inner state of peace and serenity, which is reachable underwater. The story focuses on the non-competitive side of this sport and shows to the audience the emotion of a dive into the blue. Including a brief technical explanation of a dive in constant weight, with an eye on the basic security measures and most common dangers. We have shot the film in the Adriatic sea, at Rovigno, Croatia, during an Apnea Academy’s workshop and Filippo Biondin’s Memorial Day. The instructors and athletes featuring are: Mike Maric; Roberto Chizzotto; Manlio Esposito; Paolo Vigano’; Stefano Figini and Ana Karlas.
Discovery Channel has commissioned this short documentary to Martina Amati (director) following her proposal, which was written after taking part of a freediving workshop with Umberto Pelizzari and Apnea Academy, St Teresa di Gallura, June 2006.
Fabio Ferioli (cinematographer) has shot nearly the entire images while freediving, without using tanks, adding his touch of magic.

The crew also included:
Federica Semiani (producer); Ricky Milano (sounds); Elio Scalamandrè (production manager).

With Liquid Man i intend to continue making projects about the art of freediving, to help the sport devolopping and share with a largest audience its beatuy.”
